The Official Minnesota Catholic Directory was first produced in book form for the 1972-1973 edition. It was the first time the names and addresses of parishes, priests, women and men religious, schools and other ministries in all six dioceses of the state were published in one document and made available to the public.
From the beginning an important element included were Mass times for each parish across the state – important in a state with so many people who have weekend cabins away from their home parish.
Each year since 1972 the staff of the then Catholic Bulletin and its successor The Catholic Spirit has gathered the data and updated it to keep current with the changing of names and phone numbers.
Once perfect bound, the Directory added a spiral binding upon the advice of users who preferred to have the book lay flat when they used it at their desks.
Through the years, changes to the Directory have included the addition of FAX numbers, e-mail addresses and Web site URLs, plus directions on how to get to most parishes.
Today the Web site version allows updating 24/7, 365 days a year. Our staff welcomes your feedback on how we could make the Web version of the Official Minnesota Catholic Directory even more valuable to you.
